Classical Structure with Homeschool Flexibility

History

Since September 2000, Granite Classical Tutorials has been providing high-quality classical Christian education for grades 3 and up. Originally Granite Classical Homeschool Academy, located in Granite Presbyterian Church in Granite, MD, the program opened with just 40 students under the direction and dedication of David & Ava Paul and Dave & Kelli Renken.

As the student body grew, the program relocated to Columbia Presbyterian Church and updated the name to Granite Classical Tutorials. At the Columbia location, the program grew to include grades 1-12. While the core program and vision remained essentially unchanged, Granite Classical significantly strengthened the academic, enrichment, and social aspects of the program. The first class of seniors graduated in 2005, and since then Granite Classical graduates have gone on to matriculate and graduate from many prestigious institutions of higher learning. Many students are scholarship recipients, and at least two have been National Merit Scholars. Granite Classical also has graduates who are serving their country in the US Army, Navy, and Marine Corps.

In May 2015 the founding families and the long-time Director of Classical Education, Mrs. Ava Paul, turned the program over to a new administrative team consisting of an Administrator, a Director of Classical Education, and an Office Manager. These posts are currently ably held by Mrs. Becky Morton, Miss Aubry Myers and Mrs. Lisa Abler, respectively. The Board and the staff are dedicated to the vision of a Christ-centered classical tutorial for homeschool families in the Howard County region.

In September 2021, Granite Classical Tutorials planted a second campus in Timonium dedicated to the vision of a Christ-centered classical tutorial for homeschool families in the Baltimore County region.
