About Granite Classical

Since 2000, our vision has always been the same: Granite exists to support the Christ-centered, classical homeschool. Granite Classical Tutorials has two campuses in the Baltimore – Washington metropolitan area – Columbia and Timonium. Although each campus has its own personality, each campus has the same mission, vision, policies and curriculum.

Our Mission

The mission of GCT is to support parents in the training of their children to become godly, powerful, and redemptive agents of change in a fallen world. We aim to educate and train young men and women for discernment and understanding, clear and critical thinking, graceful and persuasive speech, and the redemption of worldviews. We desire for these children to evaluate their entire range of experience in the light of the Scriptures and to do so with eagerness in joyful submission to God. We strive to encourage and inspire parents toward the goals of Christ-centered and classical training that they may meld this approach with the Biblical mandate to responsibly train up their children in the knowledge and ways of the Lord.

Our History

Since September 2000, Granite Classical Tutorials has been providing high-quality classical Christian education. Originally located in Granite, MD, the program opened with just 40 students. As the student body grew, the program relocated to Columbia, MD and significantly strengthened the academic, enrichment, and social aspects of the program. The first class of seniors graduated in 2005, and since then Granite Classical graduates have gone on to matriculate and graduate from many prestigious institutions of higher learning.

In September 2021, Granite Classical Tutorials planted a second campus in Timonium dedicated to the vision of a Christ-centered classical tutorial for homeschool families in the Baltimore County region.

“Granite has been a huge blessing and answer to prayer for our family. It’s a beautiful blend of traditional classical schooling with homeschooling where emphasis is on faithful Christian, virtue based, and family first focused education. We’ve seen the fruits of Granite’s rigorous but flexible curriculum for our daughter who, after spending her middle school years at Granite, made a smooth transition into the demands of her private high school academy.”

Parent Support

At Granite, we strive to support and enable parents as the primary educators of their children. We come alongside parents in their endeavor to classically educate their students.

Back to Granite Night

This is an annual event held early in the school year at which parents meet their children’s tutors and learn the specifics about the classes their students are taking, ask questions, and bring any initial concerns to the tutors’ attention.

Parent Meetings & Seminars

We offer seminars and meetings designed to support parents throughout the year. These events provide insight into classical education, equip parents to better understand and educate their students, and foster a sense of community among families.

Coffee & Conversation

Throughout the year, we host informal morning gatherings for parents to connect, share encouragement, and support one another.

Field Trips

We know that homeschooling is so much more than instruction and homework! We schedule parent-led field trip days throughout the academic year, making it easy to enrich your child’s education.

At Granite, you are not alone in your homeschooling endeavor. We aim to create a supportive community and to give parents the tools and encouragement they need to serve their children well with an excellent classical homeschooling experience.

High School Support

We are committed to helping you homeschool all the way through high school. Our high school guidance counselor, Kendall Morton, is available by appointment to help you plan a high school program that will fit your child’s needs and aspirations. We have also developed many resources and support systems to encourage you and help you handle the unique challenges that high school brings, such as creating a transcript, searching for and applying to colleges, and making sure your high school student’s program is the best it can be.
