Is Granite Classical the best educational choice for your children and for your family?
The mission of Granite Classical Tutorials is to be Christ centered and classical in educational methods and materials. Granite intentionally remains part time (two days a week) because home schooling is also prized. These three pursuits lead to unique features that are ideal for some families but which may cause Granite Classical Tutorials to be unsuited for others.
Because we are Christ centered, the school day begins with chapel, in which students and tutors are led in worship and thoughts about Christ, His gospel and ways to glorify Him and enjoy Him. Associates who come to Granite and who work or teach with us are intent on following Christ; there is a resulting standard of kindness and caring in our halls and classrooms. Learning is intended to be joyful and to equip students for engaging a culture that is fallen and broken, and so Granite does not shy away from information or materials that would enable such ability at an age appropriate level. As Granite grows, it is remarkable to see the outstanding gifts and skills providentially brought and offered as opportunities for our students.
Learning how to learn is the trophy of classical education. These pursuits are followed in small class settings, under the tutors’ knowledge and influence with the challenge and opportunity of working alongside peers. Granite employs the classical method and provides subjects such as Latin, Greek and Logic. The educating parents need not master these ideas themselves, but maintain the privilege and responsibility of overseeing the home school. The curriculum at Granite is ambitious and is designed for above average academic effort. If likened to a travel soccer team, the participant receives greater skills training and opportunities than he or she might on other teams. Commensurately, the practice and the work is greater and so are the benefits. Our students work hard and often find themselves pleased and surprised at the results of their own strong effort. Our trademark is an excellent, rigorous and thorough curriculum under tutors who instruct and guide students to completion.
Granite Classical is a unique “hybrid” tutorial and home school effort. Two class days create structure and routine with opportunity to experience classmates, tutors and school activities. Our students do backpacks, a dress code, lunchtime, recess, presentations, debates, science labs, history timelines, science fairs and history feasts, yearbooks, plays, parties, graduation and senior class trips. Granite offers extracurricular classes including art, drama, chorus, chess, math and physical education. The other three glorious days are reserved for the proven advantages of learning at home and with family.
